Doppelgangbanger

When I was a kid, I thought there couldn’t possibly be another Jeremy Kahn. First of all, Jeremy was a pretty rare name for my generation. It got very popular for babies when I was a teenager. Secondly, I suppose every kid’s ego dictates that he or she is unique.

Anyway, imagine my surprise when I learned in my twenties that there was a Jeremy Kahn at Harvard who was the president of the Harvard Society of Nerds. Ouch, man. Now, of course, you can Google your own name to see what comes up. I see a math guy, a journalist and a doctor, to name but a few. There’s even another musician: a guitar player (not a pianist, thank god) who lives in the UK. We’ve corresponded occasionally, and he recently told me that a lady tracked him down to ask him to do some recording, mistakenly thinking that it was me.

I guess that I’ve matured enough to take a strange comfort in the knowledge that other Jeremy Kahns exist. Maybe we should all meet up for a beverage sometime.

  1. I came across your comment and I have to let you know that Jeremy Kahn “the president of nerds at Harvard” and Jeremy Kahn “the math guy” are one and the same. He actually was a math prodigy — took Calculus in the 7th grade, on the math Olympiad team 4 times in high school and blah blah. He’s actually a charming, unique character and was my good friend a few years ago; I’ve lost touch with Jeremy, but your comment made me laugh and I had to write something about him.

    • Ahhh…why am I not surprised that “president of nerds” and “math guy” are one and the same? I’m glad to have provided you with a chuckle. How did you happen to come across that comment?

  2. Well, I’m up for a beer the next time I make it to Chicago if you are. (I’m Jeremy Kahn the journalist…or at least, a Jeremy Kahn who is a journalist. I’m not sure I’m the same one you found googling around. There might another one of us.)

  3. And I’m Jeremy Kahn the doctor. We actually met a few years ago at a bar in Chicago. I was living in Seattle but was in town visiting my then girlfriend, now wife. You were playing a club and I introduced myself. I live in Pittsburgh now. I no longer get phone calls asking me to play gigs with them, but I do think of you every once in while. When are we getting that beer?
